Let’s just say that frustration was my middle name at FLEMINGTON on Saturday – tipped in 5 races and had a frustrating string of seconds for 4 races before having HARD CALL come home and pay $14 on Betfair. I absolutely hate coming 2nd and now I will be spending time this week reviewing the races and seeing what I missed when I did my selections!
Though, I did listen to an interview with Damian Lane and he mentioned that the downfall of rain just before Race 2 was just enough to take the jar out of the top of the track which does make it a bit easier. And, as a punter, I know that changing track conditions during the race meeting can impact on the selections. Read more about this on the website in our article: Australian Track Conditions.
And the Best Bet of the Day (on our member’s selections), the heavily backed CHURCHILL DANCER came home at the back of the pack. The Stewards Report stated:
Churchill Dancer App Jordan Childs reported that his mount had a tendency to lay in and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in both forelegs. A veterinary clearance is required prior to being permitted to race again.
Meanwhile, at EAGLE FARM, things were back on track. Tipped in 5 Races for the Starter Members with 4 winners, and the selections in Race 8 also yielded a win for the Best Bet of the Day at EAGLE FARM, plus the Quinella $47.70, Trifecta $709.90 and First Four $3,154.60. That’s what the team like to find! Good results for the Professionals with the Banker and Rover Trifectas and First Fours returning over $8000 with 100% for each race. Here are some thoughts on BLACK BOOKERS:
MA JONES: Slow to begin. Steadied at the 250m. Unable to obtain clear running for the entirety of the straight and went to the line untested. Will bounce back quickly in the right race.
NURSE KITCHEN: Needed more room. Good 2nd up.
SIR LASZLO: In the right class can win. Needs a strong rider (for example, Noel Callow) and needs 2400m.
ENTRE NOUS: Caught 4 and 5 wide for the majority of the race. Good effort to finish 1 length off the winner.
Something new and exciting coming up! I have had a various questions and requests over the last few months about tipping in more races and race meetings. For me, personally, the time and work that it takes to do two race meetings on Wednesday and Saturday is too much to start adding more days in the same format. So, I am playing around with ideas and formats where I could just do “Quick Picks” – three horses per race, no assessed odds or amounts to back, and do this over maybe five race meetings. I am running this myself at the moment to look at results obtained to make sure that it will be worthwhile, and we are looking at ways to add this as a daily package on the web site. Stay tuned for more information and in the next couple of weeks I will be calling for volunteers to “test drive” this for a couple of punting days to get some feedback. Should be fun!

Whatever your choice, happy punting!.
