Things Happen in a Horse Race

So what does this subject mean?  Despite all the care and attention taken and all the calculations, things happen during a horse race that no analyst can ever consider.  Horses missing the start or suffering interference, being blocked for a run, a poor ride or just simply not good enough, and this last week was one of those times!

All these things and a lot more happen on a regular basis and can best be described as the “the crazy factor”. I just accept that this is ever present and move on with the tips and the punting.

I use the ratings and prices to the best of my ability and try and find an advantage when I do battle with other punters.  This is In the belief  that we can get it right better than most and as such, it gives our RaceBiz members and subscribers an edge that can be turned into a profit.

Many non-punters have misconceptions about the punt.  It is often stated by those that don’t really know or understand this industry that punters can’t win consistently.  They think that when punters win, it’s luck and when they lose, they’re mugs. This may be true of many punters, but not all.  Some do win and have been consistent winners for many years.

Of those that are winners, some do it by using maths and they are often referred to as “overs” punters. However, the number that slot into this category has slowly reduced over the last few years – many believing that the edge has gone due to the information explosion that has taken place.

Yet there are still races out there that give us good overs and profitable results.  I struggle to accept poor results, second to me is like coming last!  That’s why I spend just as much, if not more,  time on the after race analysis as the pre-race.  Eagle farm, on Saturday, was very frustrating as in five of the races there was less than a 2 length margin between the top ten horses at the end of the races.

So luck plays a part.  And being beaten a head in several other races tells you how this game plays out, they win, I’m a hero and they lose, then I’m a mug for tipping them!   Please remember I don’t ride them I try to place them in the order I think they should finish!
