3 Simple Steps to Profitable Punting

I have been talking a lot about betting strategies recently, and offering some suggestions for both the Free Tips and the Member’s selections.  In essence, its really quite simple and I feel that the 3 Steps for Profitable Punting are:
  1. Pick a strategy that works for you.
  2. Practice patience and stick to your strategy.
  3. Always look for value every time you place a bet.
There is a wide variety of betting types available, and it comes down to what you like and how you like to punt – win, place, multis, exotics etc.  For more information about this, you might like to check out one of our older articles Bet Types for Horse Racing.
There’s no magic or smoke and mirrors involved.  I put a lot of time into coming up with what I  feel are value tips and selections each week – I can’t promise to always get it right, but what I do promise is to do my best.  And, if you are prepared to invest a little time every week, the benefits will come.  You will see from the analysis of the Free Tips in December, that not every day is a winner but patience is rewarded.  This is also true for the Dutch Betting Strategy – so far for January this is almost $500 ahead.
With our tips, we also provide Assessed Odds.  This gives you the information to check and see if these are under the tote offering.  If yes, this is a value bet.  If no, we recommend no bet.  This doesn’t mean to say you can’t back these horses – the choice is always yours!   We use Betfair for all our win and place punting as the odds are generally better, and it may pay you to compare across several platforms.
I am always available if you want some advice, have a strategy idea that you want to talk about or simply want some suggestions about betting platforms.  You can get in touch by replying to this email or calling me on 1300 RACEBIZ.
Saturdays’ card at Moonee Valley was interesting.  You may recall that I mentioned that most races had small fields and that this can leave the favourite more vulnerable.  However, out of 4 short priced favourites, three of them came home:  BURNING FRONT, BIG DUKE and AMERISTRALIS.  This goes to show that horses don’t always do what we predict!
I was particularly pleased to see BURNING FRONT come home and make it a special day for managing owner, Justin Lovett, with the trackside appearance of his 14 year old son Lachlan who has sadly been battling cancer in recent months.  Having a son the same age and name really bought this home for me, and I’m not ashamed to admit that this old softie had a bit of a tear.
We had a good day overall on Saturday, tipping in 6 races at MOONEE VALLEY for 6 winners and 4 Races at EAGLE FARM for 3 winners – one paying $19.00.  As mentioned above, for those members following Dutch Betting, the day returned a profit of $190.10 for an outlay of $25 per race, and the bank is well in front for January.  Metro and Professional members had some returns as well.  Read more here…..
BLACK BOOKERS
  • BIG DUKE – has a touch of class from MOONEE VALLEY, and has the bull dog attitude.
  • Darren Weir has some of his stars coming back this week – look out for BLACK HART BART and PALENTINO.
And my mantra is:  Good horses, good jockeys, good trainers always will be good bets.
Hope you find my thoughts a little interesting and helpful?  Feedback – good and bad – is welcome any day.
Happy punting!
Cheers, Tim
