Punting Results and Black Bookers 25 July

Welcome to our RaceBiz catch up with a little discussion about results and some Black Bookers.  It was another crazy week in the racing world with most of the meetings abandoned last Wednesday. Some because of the weather and at Sandown because of the shifting track, mostly around the home turn. When it comes to the welfare of the horses and the jockeys it was the best thing they could have done, considering the circumstances in the first race when Craig Williams’ mount nearly fell. Safety is paramount in this game.

With the weekend just gone RaceBiz put on a FREE trial day for all email Subscribers so that they could all try our selections and see what information our members receive.  Not a subscriber yet?  It’s easy – just fill out the SIGN UP form on this page, accept our invitation by clicking on the link and you are done.  Subscribers receive Black Bookers most weeks, and there will be more free offers coming their way in the near future.

Here’s a little insight into our punting results.

Tipped in 15 races including our Best Bets with 8 winners above the assessed odds. Two selections paid 15/1, 12/1 with another at 6/1 which is great value.

In our Best Bets we put up 7 selections, returning 3 winners and 2 seconds with the winners paying 15/1, 6/1 and 3/1.  To give you an idea of what this means for your account balance, if you had chosen to do a flat rate of $100 per race for the Best Bets then your profit would have been $1760 without punting on any of our other selections.

We had 5 Quinella’s and 4 Trifecta’s to add for the exotic punters.

When punting at Flemington and down the Straight 6 it is not easy finding winners. Favourites are very vulnerable when they are not experienced, and when they don’t find cover they are sitting ducks to get beaten.  This showed in the big sprint on Saturday. The winner (MIGHTY LIKE) was our top selection in the big straight six race, with assessed odds of $4.50 the payment for the win on the tote was $15.00 and even higher on the Exchanges such as Betfair.

If you were looking to Dutch bet that particular race and wanting a return of $100, then based on the assessed odds of $4.50 your outlay on this horse would have been $22.00. If the tote was paying $4.50 then your profit would be $78.  BUT when the tote paid $15.00 the profit jumps to $308.00, and that is an overlay of $208.00. Value really was King in this race.

So, our strategy is to back against the assessed odds not the tote price.   If the tote is offering above the assessed odds then these are the horses you should look at backing.  And these will give a good overlay.  If a horse is under the assessed odds on the tote then generally we would not recommend backing that one.

That’s a very quick view of how assessed odds work. Betting this way, you will stay in the game a lot longer. Small returns are good and as your bank grows so can the size of your bets!

Black bookers this week are:

ASTRO CASTRO: This boy is way better than he looks, even though he won at $100.00, he didn’t win because he was lucky. If he can win an Open Handicap at his first race and beat some seasoned gallopers then he is good. He is a rising 4yr old and has maturity on his side. His galloping action tells me the wet tracks are to his liking.  Worth following. 9/10

LORD DURANTE: Knocking on the door and is now fit enough.  Just needs a dry track to show his best and taken to the front, with the Gauch on board and around 1800m to 2000m he will give you a very good run for your money. Loves Caulfield. 8/10

MAGNUS REIGN: Showing he has a real liking for the straight at Flemington and bob’s up at juicy odds, definitely follow him. On a good track and not too much sting out of the track, back him.  Loves Flemington Straight. 9/10

Remember, no harm in dropping us a line or two.  We love feedback!

That’s it for this week, happy punting from the team at RaceBiz.
